Loss of LS seats can hit you too: Mulayam to ministers

’Mulayam better CM than son’

Samajwadi Party (SP) president Mulayam Singh Yadav warned the ministers of Akhilesh Yadav government that they too will bear the brunt if the party loses in the Lok Sabha elections from their constituencies.

Mulayam’s tough talk came at the SP’s state executive committee meeting in Lucknow Monday.

The meeting also saw a senior party leader,Geeta Singh, openly declare Mulayam’s tenure as chief minister better than Akhilesh Yadav’s. As if taking a cue, other SP leaders, too, voiced their resentment against the government.

Earlier, during the state executive meeting held at the party office,Mulayam clearly said the minister concerned will be affected if the party loses in his constituency in 2014. “If the SP is weakened in the Lok Sabha elections, remember it will affect me and then the minister concerned will also be affected,” Mulayam said in the presence of several senior ministers.

“It is the responsibility of the ministers to ensure that the SP candidate wins from their area. They have been given the post and they should mould the people in their favour,” he stated.

Earlier,Geeta Singh,a special invitee to state executive committee, came down heavily on the Akhilesh Yadav government. “I have been associated with the party since 1988. I have seen all of Mulayam’s tenures as CM. I can say without doubt that Mulayam’s tenures were better than Akhilesh Yadav’s regime,” she said.

She also said that officers ignore SP leaders in districts.

“During Mulayam’s regime, officials would give us weightage. Our works would get done. Now,they ignore us,” she said, adding: “Now even if there are orders from CM’s secretariat, the officials hardly listen to them,it seems we are still in opposition.”

Geeta Singh,of Sitapur, has been state president of women’s wing of the party twice. She also held the post of state general secretary and state secretary of the SP. During the previous Mulayam regime, she was appointed member of state women’s commission. “I am surprised with the working of our SP government. The fear of higher authorities among officials is missing. And this is when we are about to fight the most important elections,” Geeta Singh told The Indian Express.

Her comments resulted in pin-drop silence at the meeting with Mulayam asking minister Ahmed Hasan sitting next to him: Is she correct? Hasan only fumbled and could not manage a reply.

“She is a senior leader and I know her personally. There must be something. Why has she been ignored so far. Give her some respectable position,” Mulayam told Akhilesh during the meeting.

Geeta Singh’s outburst prompted every SP leader to narrate their woes regarding officials.

After hearing them out,Akhilesh said: “Success has many fathers, failure has none.”

“I take action on any incident which is brought to my notice. I will ask you to inform me about any such incident,if there is any officer against whom you have some complaint, then tell me,” he added.

He then went on to highlight the achievements of his government while asking the SP leaders to publicise them.

A resolution was also passed during the state executive committee appreciating the state government for its handling of the Muzaffarnagar riots and the relief measures put in place thereafter for the victims. The resolution also decried the union ministers of the state for blocking development schemes.

It also mentioned that UP has received only Rs 7,401.43 crore as central assistance, which is only 17 per cent of the required Rs 44,000 crore.

It also targeted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for stoking communal passions over 84-kosi parikrama. It also mentioned that Muslims of Gujarat riots have not got justice so far.

Targeting BJP’s UP in-charge Amit Shah, the resolution said the reins of the state are in the hands of a person who is responsible for massacre and fake encounters in Gujarat. It also blamed the BSP for being hand in glove with the BJP.
