Leather industry too happy with Pranab

With Kanpur being the leading leather product exporter in the state,city industrialists are confident the mega cluster allotted to the state would be set up in or around Kanpur district.

According to Budget proposals,of the seven mega clusters,two will be located in Rajasthan and one each in West Bengal,Andhra Pradesh,Tamil Nadu,Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.

Kanpur has over 300 leather products manufacturing units and the annual leather export from the city is in excess of Rs 3,500 crore. Among the prominent leather products manufactured in Kanpur include footwear components (including shoes and sandals),leather garments,industrial gloves,saddlery,belts and bags. The prominent leather shoe brands of Kanpur are Red Tape,Red Chief,Allen Cooper,Mardigrass,Zara,Topshop and Kickers. More than two lakh people are either directly or indirectly involved in the manufacturing of leather products in the city. City industrialists are optimistic that a mega cluster at Kanpur will help in doubling the leather export in the next three years.

Irshad Mirza,leading leather industrialist and chief managing director of Mirza International,told The Indian Express: “After global recession,we desperately needed a mega cluster to boost the leather export.”
