The alleged Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) operative Faisal Rahman arrested in Kanpur on September 18 by Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) had recruited six new spies from Jharkhand,Bihar and Maharashtra for the Pakistani agency during last two years. The recruits reportedly had been spying on different locations of the Indian Army in their states under supervision of Rahman, confirmed a senior ATS official. The ATS had caught Rahman from Rail Bazar area of Kanpur and had handed him over to the local police. The Kanpur police recently had taken the ISI spy on police custody remand for three days and had collected the details from the accused. The ATS official said the concerned agencies of Maharashtra,Bihar and Jharkhand have been provided the details of the ISI operatives and work is on to trace them in coordination with the Intelligence Bureau (IB). While three of the ISI recruits belong to Hazaribagh,Bokaro and Lohardaga districts of Jharkhand, others belong to Samastipur and Muzaffarpur of Bihar and Aurangabad district of Maharashtra. The six of them have escaped from their native places soon after the arrest of Rahman. The official also said that Rahman confessed to have got Rs 20,000 each for providing the fresh recruits to the ISI. All six of the freshers had gone to Pakistan on genuine passports and visas during last two years and had undergone training at ISI camps,he added. Besides,he said,Rahman could not be traced during last 12 years by agencies here,as he never used telephone to contact any of the ISI men across the border. Rahmans wife belongs to Pakistan and his aunt is also a citizen there, but he never talked to his in-laws or his aunt on telephone to avoid the IB radar. He used to pass on the information sought by the ISI officials through emails. He used to meet his counterparts in India at religious gatherings held in different parts of the country, the ATS official said. The official also said that the ATS can take the investigation of Rahman case from Kanpur police if required later.
