Lucknow: In a bid to keep a check on rising prices of essential commodities,the state government has directed the officials to review the market prices on a daily basis and ensure that there is no unprecedented rise in wholesale and retail rates.
“The divisional commissioners and district magistrates should review market price of essential commodities every day and ensure that goods are available in adequate quantity,” said Atul Kumar Gupta,Chief Secretary. “Effective price control should be ensured and if any person is found involved black marketeering of essential commodities,then stern action will be taken against the concerned person,” he added.
The chief secretary said that 24,200 MT of yellow peas would be imported at cheaper rates and provided to the consumers at Rs 15 per kg through fair price shops. Agencies like the Essential Commodities Corporation,Employees Welfare Organisation,PCF,PCDF and horticulture federation should purchase vegetables and other essential commodities in bulk and set up their sale counters in major cities,he said.

Police rescues infant
LUCKNOW: The Etah police rescued a one-and-half-month-old child on Saturday who was kidnapped from Mumbai by his teenaged domestic help in November.
The accused,who has been arrested,was demanding a ransom of Rs 10 lakh from victim’s father. SSP of Etah R K Chaturvedi said the Mumbai police had contacted him yesterday seeking help in tracing a teenaged boy – Dushyant – of Bhagipur village in Kotwali Dehat area of the district. The Mumbai police accompanied by the local police team raided the house of the accused and rescued the child.

Couple shot in Ghazipur
LUCKNOW: A couple was shot allegedly by their rivals in Suhwal area of Ghazipur district on Saturday morning. SP of Ghazipur Ravi Kumar Lokku said Kamlesh Singh (30) and his wife Saroj (28) were shot at their house by a group of miscreants.

Cop suspended for hitting minor
LUCKNOW: A sub-inspector was suspended on Saturday in Siddharth Nagar district for allegedly torturing a minor girl. According to the SP of Siddharth Nagar,Upendra Kumar Agarwal,the sub-inspector was suspended on charges of beating up a minor girl,who was allegedly involved in a theft. The incident occurred on Friday when 12-year -old Pooja,an OBC,was brought to the Shahpur outpost on charges of theft. Thereafter,Sub-Inspector Ram Chander Bharti allegedly slapped the girl and beat her up along with another constable. Agarwal said that action has been taken against the erring cops and the police will also probe on allegations against the juvenile.

FIR lodged against jail officials
LUCKNOW: An FIR has been registered against five staff members of the Lucknow District Jail,including the Superintendent of Jail R K Kesarwani and a local youth for beating up jail inmate Mahesh Chandra Srivastava,a businessman. The FIR has been registered on the court directives. Mahesh was arrested by Hazratganj police in July.

Brijesh Singh’s wife files nomination
Varanasi: Annapurna Singh,wife of jailed Brijesh Singh,who is facing murder charges,filed her nomination for the Legislative Council elections on Saturday. She filed her papers as a BSP candidate from Varanasi local body constituency. Accompanied by BSP leaders,Annapurna came to the election office to submit her documents in a cavalcade comprising over 150 vehicles. She has movable and immovable assets worth over Rs 1.5 crore. She owns land worth over Rs 40 lakh and apartments in Mumbai,Allahabad and Varanasi.
