National SC/ST commission serves notice on CSMMU
LUCKNOW: The National Commission for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes has served a notice on Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical University following a complaint by a teacher that he was denied promotion. Santosh Kumar,who is attached with pulmonary medicine at the university,had stated in his complaint that he was denied his due promotion by the authorities. Kumars complaint was forwarded to the Commission by the SC/ST medical teachers association at the university. The university received the notice yesterday, an official said.
Woman sets sons,self on fire in UP
LUCKNOW: A woman set her two sons Vishal (4) and Vinay (1) and herself on fire in Raipura area of Chitrakoot district on Friday. Purnima (38) of Naya Chandra village had made the suicide bid following financial crisis,said Dharmendra Kumar,Station Officer,Raipura. Though Vishal screamed for help,all three were dead by the time they were taken to the hospital. Purnimas husband,Ram Kumar,is a labourer. He has five bighas of land,but they had not money to farm it. The couple have five children and they were unable to make ends meet. The three other children were in school when the incident took place,Kumar said.
12 AIPMT candidates denied admission to BHU
VARANASI: Twelve successful candidates of the All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT) have been denied admission to the undergraduate MBBS course at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) over lack of approval from the Human Resource Development Ministry and UGC. The Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS) of BHU is under the purview of the HRD Ministry and UGC. Without their and the approval of the universitys working committee,we cannot offer admission to students, said IMS-BHU Director Professor T M Mahapatra. However,Central Health and Family Ministrys Director General (Medical Education) Mangala Kohili said all medical colleges are required to allot 15 per cent of its seats to successful AIPMT candidates. Hence,there was no need for the BHU to ask for permission,she added.
