They included two pharmacists and one lab technician of the district hospital. The main accused Arunesh Singh,a pharmacist working in the Fatehpur district hospital, has managed to escape. The nursing home was being run from his house.

The other men arrested were Santosh Kumar,Ajay Kumar,Pushraj Singh and Pachu Maurya.

Medicines, operation equipment and other items stolen from the district hospital — beds, stretchers, quilts, pillows and bedsheets — were recovered from them.

“Some government doctors were also involved in the racket,” said Fatehpur District Magistrate T Guru Prashad. “It is a serious offence and needs proper inquiry.”

Prashad had ordered the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Sadar,Ram Chandra,to conduct the raid after receiving a complaint.

The nursing home was running for years without any signboard. The patients coming to the district hospital were sent there for operations and admissions. A few doctors from the district hospital used to perform surgeries and run its OPD.
