Doctor shot dead inside Meerut jail premises
A government doctor posted at Meerut District Hospital was shot dead by unidentified men near his residence on late Tuesday night. The police suspect a land dispute behind the murder of Dr Harpal Singh,who originally hailed from Bulandshahr. Singh was taking a stroll after dinner outside ghis residence located inside the jail premises when some men arrived in a car and fired at him. The local police rushed him to the Medical College where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Prabhakar Kanpura,an inspector at the Medical College police station,said they were scanning the call details of the victim to get some lead. Meerut DIG J N Singh,meanwhile,said that they have not found anything to suggest that the murder was in some way linked with his posting in the jail. There are,however,some evidence that this could be the fallout of a land dispute.
Shia body demands separate quota
All India Shia Personal Law Board (AISPLB) on Wednesday demanded separate quota for Shia Muslims in government jobs,Lok Sabha and the state assemblies. Shia community is deprived of its rights and it is need of the hour to provide reservation to them in government jobs. Seats should be reserved for them in state assemblies and in Lok Sabha according to their population, said AISPLB president Maulana Mohammad Athar. He also demanded political asylum for Shia Muslims from Pakistan and Afghanistan in the country.
