Gupta murder case: State stays transfer of key witness

Replying to the charges,the government counsel told the court it has been decided to take back the two transfer orders for Rai and issue him a fresh transfer to the city where he is presently posted.

Hearing the petition,Justices S U Khan and Anil Kumar,while directing the petitioner to join duty,disposed of his petition as the prayer for canceling the transfers were fulfilled by the government.

The court told Rai he could move the court again if he felt the government was still harassing him.

Rai had earlier told the court that was being pressured by his seniors not to make any statement against the local MLA who is an accused in the Gupta murder case. Gupta was killed for his reported refusal to fulfill the MLA’s demand for money to celebrate Chief Minister Mayawati’s birthday. Rai had also told the court he was receiving threats from the accomplices of the accused.

After he was transferred twice in two weeks,Rai had submitted a written complaint to the state government and also moved the court. “While the state government did not respond to my complaints,they told the court the transfer orders are being taken back,” Rai said.
