Govt opens a green front across state

The government has directed the Uttar Pradesh Housing and Development Board and all the 28 development authorities across the state to provide a “green frontage” to every building or plot in their future housing and institutional land schemes.

The government has directed the Uttar Pradesh Housing and Development Board and all the 28 development authorities across the state to provide a “green frontage” to every building or plot in their future housing and institutional land schemes.

In this regard, the Housing and Urban Planning department has issued an order, asking the development agencies to develop a “green verge” between the outer boundary wall of a house and the road in front of it. According to the order, the minimum width of the green verge should be five feet and have a grass cover.

“Development of green verge in front of houses and institutions is in practice in foreign countries. It is not only important for the environment but also improves the beauty of the locality,” said J N Chamber,Principal Secretary of Housing and Urban Planning department.

“Development agencies carry out plantation work before allotment of plots. But usually plants are destroyed during construction by the plot owner or the developer. Agencies have been directed to restore plantation in such housing schemes,” added Chamber.

The government has also sought reports on the condition and maintenance of water bodies. If laxity was reported in the implementation of above directives, action may be initiated against the vice-chairman of the development authorities and the housing board commissioner.
