Overall pass percentage will dip to 55% if students who have failed in at least one subject are excluded
Girls have again outperformed boys in the high school examinations conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Secondary Education Board,the results of which were declared on Friday.
In comparison to 66.03 pass percentage of boys,76.92 girls have passed the board examination. Incidentally,as compared to last year,while the number of girl students appearing in the exam this year went up by 72,860,the number of boys came down by 53,790.
The overall pass percentage of students in class X this year is 70.82 per cent. However,this also includes more than 4.9 lakh students who have failed in at least one subject but have been declared pass. If these students are not included in the pass list,then the overall percentage would be a little over 55 per cent.
On the lines of the CBSE,the UP Board has already adopted a grading system,though it also gives out the total number of marks obtained by the student.
Declaring the class X results here on Friday,Board chairman and director (education) Sanjay Mohan,said of 32,38,943 students appearing for the examination,22,93,804 students have passed. Out of these,4,98,218 students had failed in at least one subject but were declared passed.
Board Secretary Prabha Tripathi said that since after class X,the students branch out in three different streams,the fact that they have failed in one subject would not matter. It is being done by other boards too, she said.
Mohan further informed 68,046 students had failed in all the six subjects. The Board also provides relief to the students by allowing them to clear at least one subject in compartmental examinations if they have failed in two subjects.
Compared to last year,this years result has shown only a minor improvement of 0.03 per cent.
This year,9,205 students had been caught cheating or using unfair means in the examinations and results of at least 6,000 students have been withheld due to various reasons.
The topper in the state was Akash Yadav of Shyam Sunder Saraswati Vidya Inter-College,Faizabad,with 92.33 per cent marks. Priyanka Sahu of Lucknow Model Public Higher Secondary School,Indira Nagar,Lucknow,was the topper among the girls with 91.50 per cent marks.
Among the districts,the best pass percentage was secured by Mau,where 86.58 per cent students passed the test. Firozabad secured the lowest pass percentage of 46.97 percent.
State capital Lucknow was at 18th position with a pass percentage of 74.42 per cent,while Allahabad was at 29th position (72.46 per cent).
All the schools have been asked to get the marksheet-cum-certificates for their students from the regional board offices by June 16.
