Girl uninterrupted

If one goes by what the media says,I’ll be married in a month and if I put on weight, they’ll say I’m pregnant.

According to the grapevine, you’re to wed hotelier Timmy Narang soon. Is this so?
If one goes by what the media says,I’ll be married in a month and if I put on weight, they’ll say I’m pregnant. And if they catch either of us in a bad mood, the next day’s headlines will read ‘Splitsville’. I’m still preoccupied with work and Timmy is also expanding his horizons. Wedding may not happen for the next two years.

Have you been planning the wedding though?
It’s too early to plan anything — we started dating only a year ago. But like all girls,I have grand plans of getting married. I’d love to get married in a dozen different ways. We’ll have a typical South Indian ceremony since I am one as well as a Punjabi ceremony since Timmy is a Punjabi. This can be preceded by a white wedding in Vegas.

And he’d be okay with it?
Oh yes,he’s very sweet and very caring. And we’re similar in so many ways. We’re both energetic,we love working out,and we’re both foodies and are people’s persons. I didn’t know before but Timmy is also a film-buff — he loves comedies. He has a wonderful sense of humour but is sensitive at the same time.

And anything about him you don’t like?
That he doesn’t eat sweets at all while I love them and that his sense of time is really whopped while I am very punctual.

You don’t have any friends in the industry.
I don’t go that way because actors can be friends only till they don’t threaten each other’s position in the industry.

Why has your next,Ram Gopal Varma’s Shabri, been delayed?
It was supposed to be a Factory product and then Ramu had a bad phase. The recession followed and then the 26/11 controversy happened. To top it all,the strike is on now. Let’s see when it releases.

Dark, masculine and scary — you don’t look yourself in the movie. You took a risk actresses wouldn’t usually take.
When you know you’re beautiful,it doesn’t matter how you look on screen. But Shabri was really challenging. It’s a dense film about a spurned woman who’s sandwiched between the cops and the mafia. Certain events in her life compel her to then rebel against society.
For the role, every day,I’d oil myself after my workout and sit in the sun to burn myself to look dark. I didn’t even wax to make it look natural. We were shooting in Versova’s Patelwadi and my immunity took a hit, landing me in the hospital.

After so much effort, are you okay with the Khallas girl tag?
Khallas was a cult. And I understand that it’s difficult to forget something so impactful though I agree the terminology is a tad weird. But at least I’m known by my screen name, which is bigger than any award.

Any films you’re working on right now?
Nothing interesting has come my way in some time. I’m glad this phase has come at a time when I am getting to know Timmy. And if there’s no good project, then I’d like to take it easy. I’d love to do an action movie though. I’m preparing for a karate black belt. And there’s no one in the industry — and that includes Akshay Kumar — who can do action. And I’m not talking about cable work but hardcore on-your-two-feet action.
