An FIR has been registered in Lucknow against two journalists — Abhishek Upadhyay and Mamta Tripathi — for their posts on microblogging site X, questioning the posting of officers of a particular caste on key posts in Uttar Pradesh, police said.
The case was filed by Pankaj Kumar, who claims to be a freelance journalist, at the Hazratganj police station.
In his complaint, Kumar has accused Upadhyay and Tripathi of posting “false, baseless and misleading information” on their X handles “by entering into a conspiracy and criminal mentality with intention to tarnish image of Maharaj Ji (Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath) and disturbing harmony, promoting enmity among public and causing adverse affect on national integrity”, Hazratganj police station in-charge Vikram Singh said.
Kumar went on to accuse the two of being part of a conspiracy with a foreign hand.
Kumar, who claimed that Adityanath belonged to no caste being a “sanyasi”, could not be contacted for comments.
