FIR after Rahul roadshow ‘violates’ conduct code

The Kanpur district administration on Monday lodged an FIR against Rahul Gandhi,Congress district president Mahesh Dixit and others for violating the model code of conduct and creating nuisance by extending the Amethi MP’s roadshow “beyond permitted time and place”.

“We had informed the district Congress leaders well in advance about the religious procession on the occasion of Mahashivratri and movement of forces which were likely to interfere with the roadshow,but they followed their own route putting the life of Rahul and others at stake,” District Magistrate and District Election Officer Hariom said.

“An FIR has been lodged against Rahul Gandhi,Mahesh Dixit and unnamed Congress supporters for violating section 144 of CrPc and for creating public nuisance,” he said.

He said in the morning,officials requested Congress leaders to follow the permitted route of about 20 km,but “they went on with their 35-km route plan from the airport to Naya Pul for about four hours”.

Congress maintained that “appropriate legal proceedings” will be taken in this regard.
