In the fifth death related to the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) scam in UP in just over a year,a junior clerk at a community health centre (CHC),Mahendra Sharma,52,was found murdered in his flat on the CHC premises in Pasgawan area of Lakhimpur Kheri district on Wednesday evening.

According to Chief Medical Officer J P Bhargava,Sharma had been missing since February 7,after he was asked to submit records of funds received from the state government and under NRHM schemes.

About a fortnight ago,a CBI team probing the NRHM scam had visited Bhargava’s office for documents related to the execution and implementation of NRHM schemes in the district.

CBI spokesperson Dharini Mishra said Sharma had not been questioned or summoned so far. His name did not figure in any FIR registered in connection with the case.
