Retaining the cellphone of their cousin after allegedly murdering him landed two men in the police net.
The victim,Devi Prasad,a PWD employee, had gone missing in January. His wife Manisha had lodged a complaint at the Puraklandar police station.
The Senior Superintendent of Police,Faizabad,R K S Rathore, said during investigation, they found that Devi Prasads cellphone was being used by his cousin Kanshi Ram.
On questioning,Kanshi Ram admitted that he,along with Hirday Ram,had murdered Devi Prasad. The body was disposed of in the river Ghaghra near their village,Marajdeen Gopalpur.
The two had planned the murder when they got to know that Devi Prasad had received Rs 4 lakh from his late fathers PF account and inherited some property.
The plan was that after the murder,Kanshi Ram would gain the confidence of his widow, marry her and grab the property.
So far,in keeping with the plan,Kanshi Ram and Hirday Ram had been taking care of Manisha and Devi Prasads mother, said Rathore. On several occasions, they had even visited the SSP along with Manisha to inquire about the progress of the case.
