Now getting information about the revenue records and welfare schemes of a district will no longer be a difficult task. By the end of the financial year, the state Information and Technology (IT) department will be implementing the e-district project across the state.

The e-district project, one of the major initiatives under the National E-Governance Plan, brings together details of 11 services in the district on a single platform. It will also integrate this information with the state website.

The 11 services includes the FIR status, certificates like disabled, widow, caste, birth and death,RTI application format and form, grievance record,Public Distribution System, different pensions like widow, disabled etc.,utilities like house tax, land revenue dues details, electoral list, revenue court services and employment services like the NREGS and Swarnjayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojna.

Launched in November 2008,the e-district project was implemented in six districts as a pilot project. The districts were Sitapur,Gorakhpur,Sultanpur,Gautam Buddha Nagar,Ghaziabad,Rae Bareli. The project has two consultants — Wipro Limited and 3i Infotech.

Principal Secretary of IT Chandra Prakash said: “During the pilot phase,we focused on all the hurdles like timely collection of records from all the associated departments, computerisation of all the services and also regular updating of all the records.”

“It was also important that the district administrations and the district NIC units are in complete sync. While the focus was on the pilot districts, work was on in other districts as well. Now,we are all set to extend the project in other districts as well,” added Prakash.

The department has already issued orders to all the districts to submit records to the NIC district units by the first week of February.

“Not all the districts may be able to put up all the 11 services since computerisation of FIRs is still underway. But we want at least seven to eight services to be updated,” he said.
