Diploma engineering students in the state will have to shell out more from the next academic session.

Diploma engineering students in the state will have to shell out more from the next academic session. The state government has decided to increase the fee charged from the students of the government-run polytechnics that award diploma in various discipline of engineering.

Against the current annual fee of Rs 9,350,in force since 2003-04,the Cabinet today decided to increase it to Rs 12,670.

The government has decided to revise the fee in view of the steep hike in the prices of the raw material used in the laboratories and other equipment used for teaching and training the students. Moreover, the recurring cost has also escalated with the implementation of the Sixth Pay Commission recommendation for the teaching and non-teaching staff of the polytechnics.

The Cabinet also decided to extend the validity of the relief package to counter the economic downturn till September next. The validity of the package announced in first quarter of the last fiscal 2009-10 had ended on March 31 last. The package will now be in force till September next.

In the package, the government had announced series of measures for trade and industry like waiver of penal interest for those who had defaulted in payment of the cost of the plots in industrial estates and also relief in stamp duty for various categories of industries.

For the forthcoming elections and the three-tier panchayat bodies, the Cabinet approved a proposal for the amendment in the UP Panchayat Raj Rules 1994 — the reservation rules for the SC,ST and OBCs.
