There is some good news for players residing in sports hostels at various sports centres. The requests of the trainees and coaches for the past few years seem to have yielded results at last. Soon, the players diet money will be increased from Rs 100 per player daily to Rs 150 per player daily.
Talking to The Indian Express,Director Sports (UP) Dr Hari Om informed,There were complaints regarding the quality of food being served to the hostellers for quite some time. On reviewing the matter it was found that though the prices of commodities have increased many times over the years, rates of diet money had not been revised since almost ten years.
The revised rate of diet money will be able to cater to the nutritional requirement of the players. The trainees residing in hostels generally belong to the 16 year age group and a diet money amounting Rs 150 per day will be catering to a players calorie needs.
He said that after considering all these aspects it was proposed by the directorate to increase the diet money and the government has sanctioned the additional funds by including the expenditure in the supplementary budget.
The budget has been allotted and the department is waiting for the formal government order for the same. Very soon the diet money at the new rate will be introduced in various hostels run by state government, he further added.
To ensure that the increase in diet money actually benefits the players, surprise inspections will be carried out in mess of the different hostels across the state. At present there are around 780 hostellers in the sports hostels run by the state government. The department is hopeful that the increased diet money will have a good impact on the players performance.
