DGP retires today, Centre yet to reply on extension

Panda could not confirm if the state government has initiated a process to employ Gupta’s successor for the post.

Even as Uttar Pradesh DGP Arun Kumar Gupta is due to retire on Saturday, the state government is yet to receive any confirmation from the Centre on its proposal to extend Gupta’s services for three months, Principal Home Secretary, Debasish Panda said on Friday.

Panda could not confirm if the state government has initiated a process to employ Gupta’s successor for the post.

Despite Friday being the last working day for the central government in Delhi, Panda said they are still awaiting a response vis-a-vis their proposal.

The state government had sent a proposal to Ministry of Home Affairs to extend Gupta’s services for another three months on January 24. Gupta was appointed the DGP on January 1, a month before he was scheduled to retire.

The DGP headquarters on Thursday evening issued the schedule for the ceremonial parade at Gupta’s superannuation, to be held at 9 am on Saturday. IG, Law and Order, A Satish Ganesh declined to comment on the status of extension.

According to sources, DG-rank officers including Jagmohan Yadav, Surya Kumar Shukla, V K Gupta and AK Jain are top claimants for the post of DGP now.
