DGP orders probe after addl SP accuses senior of harassment
The IG forwarded the letter to the DGP headquarters on the basis of which an inquiry was ordered today.
The DGP headquarters on Sunday ordered an inquiry into the allegations that Varanasi SSP Ajay Kumar Mishra has been harassing his subordinate Additional SP (Traffic) Gopesh Nath Khanna. The SSP had sent a letter to the DGP recommending a probe by the Anti-Corruption Organisation into Khannas alleged involvement in corruption three months ago, besides also requesting for Khannas transfer.
Following the letter, the Varanasi unit of ACO initiated probe against the Additional SP.
Khanna,on the other hand, submitted a letter to Varanasi Zone IG G L Meena three days ago. In the letter,he has alleged harassment, saying the SSP withdrew his driver, official vehicle and the follower on October 16 without giving any reason. The IG forwarded the letter to the DGP headquarters on the basis of which an inquiry was ordered today.
Confirming this,Additional DG (ADG) Law and Order Mukul Goel said Varanasi Range DIG A Satish Ganesh will oversee the inquiry.
A senior police officer told The Indian Express that as per Khannas allegations, the SSP was harassing him because he (Khanna) had refused to sign the list confirming the transfer of 14 constables of Traffic police to the Armed police in Varanasi on the ground that their transfer during Bakr-eid can hamper law and order. The transfer order was issued on October 13 and had received approval of District Establishment Board, headed by the SSP and of which Khanna was a member along with a Circle Officer.
