Seven policemen were suspended and an FIR was lodged against them on Sunday after a 50-year-old man died allegedly in police custody in Aliganj area of Etah district on Saturday night. Those suspended include Aliganj police station Inspector Ranvir Singh.
Though the policemen claimed that Vijay Singh died of a heart attack, senior authorities said that cause of the death would be clear only after they receive the postmortem report.
On Saturday night,a police team comprising Inspector Ranvir Singh,sub-inspectors Ranvir Malik and Tejvir Singh, along with four constables, raided Vijay Singhs residence to arrest his son Ishwar Dayal. They were brining him to the police station for interrogation when Vijay suffered a heart attack, said R K Chaturvedi,Senior Superintending of Police of Etah.
