Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical University (CSMMU) is all set to go paperless. The bundles of records and forms of patients will now be made available online for doctors’ reference.

While the proposal of using a Centralised Patient Management System was passed in the last executive council meeting held on Saturday, tenders have already been floated for server space and bids are expected to open on March 16.

The software for the patient management system has been designed by Dr Ashish Wakhlu of the Department of Pediatric Surgery. The system, which is already in place in his department, will enable various departments of the university to access the data of any patient stored online.

“The software designed by Dr Wakhlu is not only economical but also very user friendly and adaptable in all departments. Since the EC has approved it,the system will be ready for use within the next three to four months,” said CSMMU Vice-Chancellor Dr Saroj Chooramani Gopal.

“The total expenditure of putting the records will be between Rs 30 and 45 lakh and will be of great help for patients who till now had to carry bulky records from one place to another,” said Dr Gopal.

“The online records will also help X ray technicians and radiologists,” added Dr Gopal.
