‘Corruption biggest issue,PM in the dock’

Terming corruption as the biggest evil before the country,he said the situation had worsened in the last few days with the Supreme Court quashing selection of Thomas as CVC by a panel headed by the Prime Minister.

“Corruption is the biggest issue in the country and situation has worsened in the past few days. People are getting aware about this evil which is a warning for corrupt people,” Jaitely said at the seminar organised by Friends of BJP.

Jaitely said that in 2008,at the time of 2G spectrum allocation,the then Finance Minister P Chidambaram said that it should be done through auction,but the government did not accept it.

As a result,three years after the allocations,the government had to admit that its mistake resulted in loss of lakhs of crores of rupees to the exchequer,he said.

Referring to CWG,he said that so far,the cases related to the Organising Committee only have been exposed but a few more would come to the fore in days to come.

Terming solution to Kashmir problem as a major challenge before the country Jaitely alleged that the Centre was not serious in sorting out problems of this region of the country. Attacking the Mayawati government,he said new records of corruption were being set in Uttar Pradesh.
