Cops assault brick kiln workers

IG justifies action: ‘Necessary to prevent land grab’

Armaan and Rafeeq,workers at a brick kiln were allegedly assaulted by policemen during an anti-encroachment drive at Chandausi in Sambhal district,after which an inquiry has been ordered. The duo were allegedly assaulted for unloading bricks at a disputed site by sub-inspector Sartaj Ali and other policemen in Chandausi two days ago,SP Tehsildar Singh said. An inquiry has been ordered after the incident came to light,he added.

The brick kiln owner,however,claimed that the workers had gone there only to unload bricks and they had nothing to do with encroachment.

Meanwhile,IG Crime Ashish Gupta told reporters in Lucknow that those assaulted had gone to grab a property after which a woman called police.

“An inquiry has been ordered by Circle Officer on the allegations of use of excessive force by policemen,” Gupta said,justifying police action terming it necessary to prevent land grab.
