Cop stabbed to death by car-jackers

A police constable returning to the barracks after his shift was stabbed to death,allegedly by men he accosted while they were trying to break into a parked car.

A police constable returning to the barracks after his shift was stabbed to death,allegedly by men he accosted while they were trying to break into a parked car. The incident took place around 2 am Sunday. A passersby alerted police about a man lying on the road. By the time police reached the spot,constable Jitendra Singh was already dead. His motorcycle was missing.

Raghubir Lal,Ghaziabad Senior Superintendent of Police,said,“Singh was returning to his barracks at Shalimar Garden when the incident took place. The distance from his post at Atal Chowk to the barracks is about one kilometre. There are very few leads. Preliminary investigation has revealed that he was trying to stop the theft of a vehicle parked in the area. Inquiries are on but no person has been arrested so far.”

Police said a passerby informed them about the incident over phone at 2.30 am. Officials said efforts were on to trace Singh’s Hero Honda Splendor motorcycle that the assailants escaped on.

Singh,32,was attached to the Ghaziabad Police’s Special Operations Group.
