A constable was arrested while three others,including the SHO of Puwayan police station of Shahjahanpur district,were suspended on Wednesday for illegally detaining a youth in custody for three days and extorting money against his release.
Shahjahanpur Superintendent of Police (SP) Krishna Mohan said the incident took place on April 28,but the complainant Khatib Ahmed lodged the complaint on Wednesday. The complainant reportedly produced video-clips of the constable receiving the extortion money on behalf of the SHO.
Ahmed told police that a team from Puwayan police station,led by SHO Shailendra Singh,raided his house and picked him up on April 28. The cops collected Rs 20,000 kept in the almirah during the search and also misbehaved with his wife,said the SP. Ahmed also alleged the SHO threatened to implicate him in a case of robbery if he did not arrange for another Rs 40,000. When Constable Narendra went to collect the money,Ahmeds brothers reportedly video-recorded the episode,the SP added.
Ahmed said he lodged the FIR after a month as the SHO had all along threatened him with dire consequences.
Ahmed has reportedly told police that he shared a rivalry with his neighbour and the SHO raided his house on his (neighbours) insistence.
A case of robbery,intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace and illegal detention has been registered against the SHO,Sub-Inspector Om Prakash Gautam and Constables Narendra and Shamim Khan at the Puwayan police station,said the SP,adding that Narendra was arrested on the basis of the videoclip. The circle officer of Puwayan area would investigate the case,he added.
