The Congress today criticised Chief Minister Mayawatis reported move to raise a police force to protect the statues and memorials in the state. Terming it as wastage of taxpayers money,Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari said a private militia was being raised with public money.
This security force is being set up for those statues on which the apex court has put a ban. Contempt application for violation of its direction is still under the consideration of the Supreme Court, said Tewari.
This is being done at a time when there is dearth of policemen, especially constables. The number of policemen deployed in the police stations is less than one-fourth of the required strength. It has been reiterated time and again that beat policing should be strengthened to fight terrorism, said Tewari at a press briefing in New Delhi.
The chief minister who spoke for the upliftment of the Dalits today reminds of kings and feudal lords. It calls for a serious introspection by the people of UP, he added.
