CM defends suspension,slams media

Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav Monday defended his decision to suspend IAS officer Durga Shakti Nagpal, while blaming the media for adopting a negative approach towards his government

Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav Monday defended his decision to suspend IAS officer Durga Shakti Nagpal, while blaming the media for adopting a negative approach towards his government.

Addressing party workers on the occasion of the 81st birth anniversary of socialist leader Janeshwar Mishra at the Samajwadi Party office,Akhilesh said,“Such a hue and cry is being raised over her suspension. Many SDMs have been suspended in the country but nobody talks about them. Media has adopted a negative role.”

He said that during the previous BSP regime,IAS officers never dared to speak their mind.

“The officers who are so easily roaming in pancham tal used to take off their shoes while visiting the CM then. Now,fingers are raised at even our just decisions,” he said.

“And this is only because that we have taken some tough decisions and it is being highlighted in media. We had ushered in democratic norms. During the BSP regime, every voice was silenced. Then an IAS officer was forced to commit suicide, officials were harassed and humiliated,” he stated.

At the party office, several speakers lauded Akhilesh for Nagpal’s suspension.

“Who had brought Durga Shakti Nagpal from the Punjab cadre? Our young CM,who never raised any question over her drive against illegal mining. But when she demolished the wall of a mosque,it led to communal tension, which could have engulfed the adjoining areas. So she was suspended,” Ahmed Hasan,Minister of Health and Family Welfare, said.

Earlier,Akhilesh attended a programme to felicitate meritorious students at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan.

There he said,“’Many students sitting here must have been scolded by their parents and even beaten by their teachers when they committed mistakes. Similarly, the government also takes action on the wrong deeds of its officers,” Akhilesh said in reference to Nagpal’s suspension.
