City turns blue for Kanshiram’s death anniversary

Chief Minister Mayawati is likely to dedicate about 484 projects worth around Rs 6,000 crore to people on Sunday,the fifth death anniversary of Kanshiram,founder of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).

Sources said that the ruling party has decided to observe the death anniversary of Kanshiram at all district headquarters across the state and therefore,the party MPs and MLAs have been directed to remain in their districts to attend the programmes.

In Lucknow,a function will be organised at Kanshiram Smarak Sthal on VIP road. Party workers from Lucknow district have been called at the programme venue where Chief Minister would pay tribute to Kanshiram by offering flowers on his bronze statue erected along her statue inside the memorial building. However,the BSP supremo may not deliver any speech there.

The entire area around the memorial on VIP road and at Kalidas Marg area near Chief Minister’s official residence have turned blue with BSP’s blue flags. To show their dedication towards the party and respect for Kanshiram,BSP leaders have erected more than 200 hoardings/ banners on Lohia Path,Kalidas Marg crossing,Vikramaditya Marg crossing and the road along Kanshiram Eco (green) Garden and Kanshiram Memorial.

Preparations for the programme are in full swing in and around the Kanshiram Memorial at present. Sources said that a small documentary on the life of Kanshiram and Mayawati and their achievements may be screened at the venue.

Loudspeakers have been installed on the boundary walls of the memorials. UP Rajakiya Niram Nigam staff were busy at work till late Saturday night. Senior government officials took stock of the preparations at the venue throughout the day. Dried palm trees inside the boundary walls were being replaced with new and green ones.

The state medical and health department has set up a temporary medical camp inside the Kanshiram Eco (Green) garden located adjacent to the Kanshiram Memorial for any emergency situation. In the view of the ongoing preparations,public’s entry to the Kanshiram Memorial was restricted today. However,security guards said that people would be allowed to visit the memorial free on Sunday.

The roads and footpaths on the entire stretch between Kalidas Marg to Kanshiram Memorial was being cleaned by safai workers today.
