Thunderstorm,rain damage standing crop
Gorakhpur: Thunderstorm and squall lashed eastern part of Uttar Pradesh damaging standing crop in the region,Meteorological department officials said. Standing crops of wheat,mustard along with the produce at threshing grounds were destroyed due to strong winds and showers,an agriculture official said,adding the damage is yet to be estimated. The storm also disrupted traffic on the National Highways 28 and 29 which connect Gorakhpur to Varanasi and Lucknow as trees were uprooted and electric poles fell on the ground,the official added. The storm along with the squall began late Sunday evening and continued till this morning,they said. Thunderstorm was result of low pressure situation near Varanasi. About 1.6 mm of rain was received during the period as per the Met record,while the wind speed was 30 to 50 kmph.
CSMMU Registrar transferred
Lucknow: The Registrar of CSM Medical University,VP Singh,was on Monday transferred as Special Secretary,Minority Welfare and Waqf Department,with an additional charge of Managing Director,Minority Finance and Development Corporation. Rakesh Kumar,Chief Development Officer of Siddharth Nagar,has been posted as the Registrar of the university. Singhs tenure at the university,where he was posted in July 2008,was marked by allegations of financial as well as postings-related anomalies but no charges were fixed. However,the university sources informed that a fine of Rs 25,000 was imposed on him by the State Information Commission for an incorrect information provided by him under RTI.
Missing student found dead
Lucknow: An undergraduate student of Lucknow University,who had gone missing on April 1,was found dead on a railway track in Madiaon area,police said here. The mutilated body of Gyanendra Kumar Verma (18),a resident of Lakhimpur district,was recovered from the railway track near Mohibullahpur railway station on Sunday,they said. Police suspect the youth allegedly committed suicide as he was unable to do well in his examinations and was under depression. In another incident,a 48-year-old man allegedly committed suicide due to poor financial condition in Mohanlalganj area. Gokaram Prasad hanged himself from a tree on Sunday.
