Child rights panel to probe case

Besides the National Commission for Women,the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights will also probe the Divya Singh sexual assault and death case.

Besides the National Commission for Women,the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) will also probe the Divya Singh sexual assault and death case. A two-member NCPCR team is expected to meet Divya’s parents and teachers on November 9.

Ajay Bhadoria,lawyer of Divya’s mother Sonu Singh Bhadoria said that they had sent a complaint to NCPCR,which then sought a report from Kanpur police and district administration.

“It appears that the NCPCR is not satisfied with the report submitted by Kanpur police and district administration so they have deputed a two-member committee,” Bhadoria said.

Meanwhile,Sonu has vacated her rented house in Roshan Nagar on the request of landlord Rajan Shukla,who said he needed the house for a wedding later this month.

Sonu denied she vacated the house under any kind of pressure.

Ajay said Shukla was very supportive of Sonu,but since police had questioned him and other tenants several times,“he might have felt harassed”.

A Class VI student of Bharti Gyan Sthali School,Divya,12,died soon after she was dropped outside her house by the school staff on September 27. A postmortem report confirmed sexual assault,with heavy bleeding and shock listed as the cause of death.

Following a complaint by Sonu,police registered a case of sexual assault and murder against the school staff and on September 27 arrested the owner-cum-manager Chandra Pal Verma and his son

Sudhir Verma. Verma’s other son was arrested on October 15.
