Chargesheet against 16 in Nandi attack case

The police have also invoked the Gangster Act and the Explosive Substances Act.

The court has taken cognisance of the chargesheet and summoned the accused on August 24.

The main accused,Samajwadi Party MLA Vijay Mishra and his relative Dilip Mishra,have been named in the chargesheet.

The other names are Rajesh Pilot,who was allegedly hired to kill minister Nandi,Kripa Shankar Pandey,Rajesh Yadav,Manoj Pandey,Jitendra Pandey,Mahendra Mishra,Purshottam Dubey,Subhash Vishwakarma,Mohammad Rafiq and Jaishankar Vishwakarma. They have been accused of providing logistical support or actively participating in the crime. All of them are behind bars.

The incident took place on July 12,2010,when Nandi,along with Vijay Pratap Singh,was coming out of his residence in Bahadurganj area of Allahabad around 10.30 a.m. The bomb,kept in a moped,was detonated with a remote-controlled device.

Apart from Nandi,the others who were injured in the attack were Vijay Pratap Singh,the minister’s gunner Sanjay Singh,a sanitation employee Shyam Babu,minister’s PRO Anuj Pandey,Pritam Singh and a BSP worker Rakesh Malviya,who later died.

The same evening,Nandi was rushed to the SGPGI in Lucknow for treatment. The next day,Vijay Pratap Singh was taken to the Army Research and Referral Hospital in Delhi,where he died nine days later.

The prosecution maintains that old enmity between Nandi — who was then institutional finance minister in the Mayawati government and is now minister for homeopathy education — and Vijay and Dilip Mishra led to the incident.

The main accused hired Rajesh Pilot alias Annu Shandilya for carrying out the job. The other accused had helped in executing the crime.
