Central forces to guard rural booths

All polling centres across rural areas in UP will be under vigil of the Central Para Military Force to ensure tight security in and outside the polling booths.

All polling centres across rural areas in UP will be under vigil of the Central Para Military Force (CPMF) to ensure tight security in and outside the polling booths. The state police force will look after the law and order outside these booths. The arrangement has been made following directives of the Election Commission.

Incharge of the election cell at the DGP headquarters,Deputy Inspector General Ashutosh Pandey said that the state police force will be responsible for maintaining law and order in the area outside the polling booths,and police have been already sent to the districts where first phase of polling is to be held on February 8.

UP has so far received 150 companies of CPMF and 650 more companies would reach here before the first phase of the polling is held. The para-military force has been sent to 70 districts so far.

Polling centres in urban areas with less than four polling booths will be guarded by the PAC.

The DIG said that polling will be held at about 13,000 centres and 20,000 booths in one phase and 3,000 sub-inspectors,2,400 head constables and 35,000 constables are being deployed in each of the phases. One platoon (30-35 personnel) of the CPMF will be deployed for each of the polling centres,depending upon the requirement of the concerning sector magistrate. The police will not be allowed to enter the booths without the permission of platoon commanders. Pandey said that each of the station officers have been provided two vehicles along with the armed policemen for patrolling purpose.
