Amid growing differences with the Samajwadi Party over seat sharing for the Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections, the Uttar Pradesh Congress has decided to organise an OBC convention in Lucknow on October 31 to raise the demand for reservation for OBC based on their population and caste-based census and also proper implementation of the Mandal Commission report.

The decision to hold the convention was taken at the meeting of the Congress’ OBC wing in Lucknow on Thursday, party sources said. “We have been organising meetings with the message of seeking caste-based census and reservation for OBCs in accordance to their population among other things.

It has been decided today (Thursday) that the party will organise an OBC convention in Lucknow on October 31 on the issues of OBC and its demands,” Congress organisational secretary Anil Yadav said.

Yadav further said that the convention would focus on 3-4 major issues, including the implementation of the Mandal Commission report, which has not yet been implemented.

Earlier in the day, Congress state president Ajay Rai held an organisational meeting with officer bearers from 18 divisions of the state for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Rai asked the office bearers to start campaigning at the grassroots level. The Congress chief alleged that those who could not even take the names of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are today talking about fighting with the BJP.
