Noted lawyer and former Janata Dal MP Jagdeep Dhankhar has been appointed as the Governor of West Bengal, replacing Keshari Nath Tripathi. Another senior BJP leader, Ramesh Bais, has been appointed Tripura Governor.
In its orders issued on May 21, two days before the results of the General Election, the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment extended the Commission’s tenure for another two months beyond the current deadline of May 31.
The OBC is an umbrella category that, at the Centre, clubs together nearly 5,000 castes that are at different stages of social, political and economic advancement. It is a reasonable assumption that the better empowered castes in the OBC list have cornered the benefits of reservation to the exclusion of the rest.

Kanpur, Feb 24 (ANI): After the protests by the Jat community of Haryana demanding reservation in the other backward classes (OBC) category, upper caste people in Kanpur held a semi-nude protest demanding reservation. The protestors critised Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for all the fake promises. The protesters raised slogans against BJP.
Delhi-Haryana Border, Feb 21 (ANI): The security forces on Sunday used tear gas shells to disperse protestors at the Munak Canal on the Delhi-Haryana border amid the ongoing pro-reservation protest by the Jat community. The security personnel deployed on the site are trying to remove the agitators, who are protesting from the last seven days. The Jat protestors have also blocked NH 8 near Jaisinghpur Khera of Rewari district. Meanwhile, the police baton charged the protestors, who have blocked the NH 2 in Faridabad. At least 10 people have been killed and 150 injured as protests by the Jat community in Haryana demanding status for Other Backward Classes (OBC) continued for the seventh day.
