The BSP has decided to deny ticket to its sitting MP from Hamirpur Lok Sabha constituency,Vijay Bahadur Singh, and named former MLA Rakesh Goswami in his place to contest the next parliamentary election.
With the announcement of Goswamis name from Hamirpur, the total number of Brahmin candidates for the next Lok Sabha elections announced by the BSP has reached 21.
Goswami had won the Assembly poll from Mahoba as a BSP candidate in 2007. However,he was not given the ticket by the BSP in 2012 Assembly election.
BSP general secretary Naseemuddin Siddiqui, who announced Goswamis name during a party function at Mahoba last week, said the decision of denying ticket to Singh was taken by the national leadership and he could not comment on it. He,however, added that Singh has been asked to oversee organisations work in Bundelkhand. A local party leader from Bundelkhand said Singh was denied ticket after the party leadership got the report that he may not be a winning candidate. He said that Singh had not been much involved in his constituency and did not take interest in development work there.
Singh,an Allahabad High Court lawyer, had defeated SP candidate Rajnarayan alias Rajju by a margin of more than 25,000 votes in 2009.
When contacted,Singh said he was not interested in contesting election. He,however, added that regional parties have no future. Sources said Singh was in touch with BJP leaders and was trying to get a ticket from the party.
Singh is BSPs third sitting MP to be denied ticket. The party has named Kamlesh Shukla from Deoria in place of sitting MP Gorakh Prasad Jaiswal. Kairana MP Tabassum Hassan has been replaced with Qamar Hassan after her son Nahid Munawwars name was announced by the SP as its candidate from the same seat. Qamar is Nahids uncle.
