Bridge collapse: Shivpal suspends three engineers

PWD Minister Shivpal Singh Yadav on Wednesday suspended three engineers of UP State Bridge Corporation in connection with collapse of an under construction bridge on river Gomti on the city’s outskirts.

PWD Minister Shivpal Singh Yadav on Wednesday suspended three engineers of UP State Bridge Corporation (UPSBC) in connection with collapse of an under construction bridge on river Gomti on the city’s outskirts. The 200-metre four-lane bridge was part of Lucknow-Kanpur-Hardoi-Sitapur road and was being constructed on Gomti river near Ghailla ghat. Three beams of the bridge had collapsed on Tuesday.

The suspended engineers are project manager Mohammad Qamar,assistant engineer Akhilesh Pratap Singh and junior engineer Diwakar Gautam. The trio have been placed under suspension on the charges of dereliction in duty,not doing work as per standards and giving loss to the state exchequer.

UPSBC General Manager (monitoring) D S Arora has been ordered to conduct an inquiry in to the matter.
