Before the Break-up

Must be tough to believe in relationships after hosting a show like Emotional Atyachaar.

New show on Bindass provides estranged couples chance to give it a second shot

Must be tough to believe in relationships after hosting a show like Emotional Atyachaar,in which committed partners launch loyalty test on each other only to see some shocking revelations?

“Relationship is the most used/abused/misused word these days…even people who’ve known each other for just a few weeks call their association a relationship which is something arguable,” says Pravesh Rana,in Lucknow on Thursday to promote Love Lockup, the show that goes on air on UTV Bindass from January 10. “As far as my personal life goes, spy on me as much as you want and I am sure the footage of my private moments will bore you to sleep,” smiles the host, making an overt statement of his singlehood.

“Whenever I need to bare my soul,I ring up my parents and the burden,if any,is off my chest right away. I am doing pretty well without linkups, thank you very much,” is his smug reiteration. The new programme is an experiment with estrangement.

“When a marriage is on the rocks and parties involved turn to us,we isolate them in a room for six days in which time the ice breaks and there is literally room to thrash out differences. If need be,we bring in even a mother-in-law in case she is the bone of contention,or a friend, kin,or anyone who can catalyse the process of exploring possibilities if any to reignite the flame,” says Rana, who is also hosting Emotional Atyachar and Chak Doom Doom (Colors),along with this show. “I do get mixed up moving in and out of different grooves, but one long conversation with my parents and I am all sorted out,” he says. A national level basketball player hailing from a family of police personnel,Rana wishes there was better infrastructure to encourage sportspersons and wants at least one show out of the hundreds on TV to focus on the brunt a majority of policemen has to bear of the misdeeds of a few corrupt cops and to highlight the good work done by police.

“Our exhaustive database of research and feedback shows youngsters value career, love and family most in their lives and without being too sermonising,we devise a show of youth interest,” says Kunal Mukherjee, marketing head of the channel, adding,“we have feedback that tells us that after watching Emotional Atyachaar, people have actually begun to hold back from straying out of their commitments.”
