The counting and declaration of results for the elections to the Allahabad University Students Union (AUSU) will take place Sunday. Earlier, the counting and declaration of results, following the polls that took place on November 26,had been stayed by the Allahabad High Court.
The Returning Officer for the AUSU elections,Prof Ram Kripal Saturday said: The counting will begin at 11 am. It may take around four hours for the results to be declared. Adequate arrangements have been made to ensure the exercise is carried out without any technical hiccups.
Prof Kripal said the HC,which had earlier directed a stay till November 29 in connection with a petition, had refused to extend the stay.
The stay on counting and declaration of results was till November 29. When the matter came up for hearing Friday, the court did not extend the stay. We sought legal opinion on the matter, which said that if a stay, granted till a particular period,is not extended,it will be deemed to have been vacated. Therefore,we are going ahead with the completion of the election process, he said.
