Amity: Will resign if son proved guilty, says SP MLA

Samajwadi Party MLA Pramod Gupta on Tuesday denied that his son Abhinav Gupta slapped his teacher at Amity University last week.

Samajwadi Party MLA Pramod Gupta on Tuesday denied that his son Abhinav Gupta slapped his teacher at Amity University last week. Gupta said he would resign from the Vidhan Sabha if it was proved that his son had slapped his teacher.

The issue came up when Leader of Opposition Swami Prasad Maurya, while speaking on the budget, referred to the incident as an example for poor law and order in the state.

“The Amity University incident is known to everyone. The chief minister should be thanked that he personally intervened,” Maurya said.

Before he could proceed any further,Pramod Gupta stood up and denied the charge against his son. “It is all fabricated. The Leader of Opposition should not say this,” he remarked.

Pramod Gupta said that some leaders were instrumental in bringing the teacher for meeting to the CM. “It was BJP’s Radha Mohan Aggrawal and Congress’s Pramod Tiwari. They presented the teacher before the CM. If it is proved that my son slapped his teacher,I will resign from Vidhan Sabha,” Gupta stated.

Maurya remarked,“If he has not done it,then it is fine.”

Pramod Gupta is MLA from Bidhuna seat in Auraiyya district. His son,a student of BA-LLB,had allegedly slapped his teacher Archana Shukla on Thursday. The teacher lodged an FIR against Abhinav and the university has expelled him. The police had arrested him on Sunday, but he soon got bail.
