Actor Akanksha Dubey death: Bhojpuri singer Samar Singh arrested from Ghaziabad

“We have arrested Samar Singh. He will be questioned on the allegations made against him,” Varanasi Police Commissioner Mutha Ashok Jain said, adding the investigators are looking into the role of his relative Sanjay Singh.
Samar Singh and Sanjay Singh had allegedly gone into hiding following the registration of an FIR against them.

Late Thursday night, a team of Varanasi Police reached Ghaziabad and arrested Samar Singh. Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order, Varanasi) Santosh Kumar Singh said they received information about Samar hiding in Ghaziabad.

“A team from the Sarnath police station of the Varanasi Commissionerate came to Ghaziabad on Thursday night. They sought the help of the Ghaziabad police in nabbing Samar Singh from a residential colony,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Ghaziabad City) Nipun Agarwal said.

Later in the afternoon, a local Ghaziabad court granted a 24-hour transit remand of Samar Singh to the Varanasi Police. The visiting police team then left for Varanasi with Samar Singh in its custody.

DCP Agarwal said before moving to the Ghaziabad society for shelter, Samar Singh had been in hiding at different locations in Noida, Delhi and Uttarakhand. Police said four people, including Samar Singh, were taken into custody from the flat on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday. They were brought to the local Nandgram police station for questioning after which the three were let off.

The 25-year-old popular Bhojpuri actor was found hanging from the fan with a stole on March 26. A native of Bhadohi district, Akanksha had gone to Varanasi for shooting a movie and was staying in the hotel since March 22.

Though police did not recover any suicide note from her hotel room, they said prima facie it was a case of suicide. Police said the postmortem report confirmed that the death occurred due to hanging. Doctors have sent the viscera for examination and its report is awaited.

Akanksha starred in several regional films including Kasam Paida Karne Wale Ki 2, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (Bhopuri) and Veeron Ke Veer.
