Having already made a mark at the youth level,Samarjit,15,is aiming to rub shoulders with seniors.

Promising shooter Samarjit Singh is eagerly waiting for the 57th National Shooting Championship Competition (NSCC) slated to be held in Delhi from December 11 to 24,to start. Having already made a mark at the youth level,Samarjit,15,is aiming to rub shoulders with seniors. Samarjit’s father Mukuljit Singh who is his coach as well, and is into real estate business, leaves Lucknow (where he resides) for Dehradun every weekend to impart training to his son.

“I won a gold in the 10m air pistol event (youth U-18) in the 6th Asian Air Gun Championship held at Tehran in October this year. At the national level,I have won several medals, including golds,at the junior and youth level but I now want to make a mark among the seniors at the NSCC,” said Samrjit, who is a Class X student of the reputed Doon School,Dehradun.

“I am participating in the youth, junior and senior category in these championships. My immediate aim is to reach the senior category finals in the air pistol event besides excelling at the junior level. I will turn 16 on December 13 this year and hope to put up a good show to give just a perfect return gift to my dad.”

Samarjit considers the gold which he clinched in the air pistol event in June this year at the All India Digvijay Singh Memorial Championship at Muzaffarnagar as his “first achievement at the senior level.” He has already fixed targets for 2014 — the Youth Olympics and the World Championships (junior category).
