Accident,not murder,says postmortem report

After facing much humiliation on Sunday over the death of security guard Gajraj Singh,Kanpur police heaved a sigh of relief on Monday after the postmortem report upheld the police version.

While the locals suspected that Constable Ram Kishore Patel and Home Guard Ram Sanjeevan Bajpai were involved in the death of Singh,the cops said he had died in an accident and there was an eyewitness to the incident too.

The postmortem report stated that though 12 injuries were detected on the body,only the head injury was fatal. The skull had broken after the deceased had banged his head against a vehicle or an object.

The logbook entry of the Police Control Room confirms the road accident involving a tempo and a stationary DCM Truck in the Naramau area on late Saturday evening.

Virendra Kumar Mishra,an eyewitness to the mishap,who had called up the police control room to inform them about the incident,has identified the deceased as well as tempo driver Govind Singh.

Govind has admitted to the police that he disposed of the body in Mandhana. He said the accident occurred because he could not spot the stationary DCM truck.

The Station Officer of Bithoor,Jitender Singh,said: Singh was sitting on the front seat of the tempo,and absorbed the maximum impact of the accident.

Deputy Inspector General of Kanpur,Hari Ram Sharma said: The sequence of events and the statements made by the eyewitness and the tempo driver confirm that Singh had died in the road mishap.

Two cases,meanwhile,were registered with the Bithoor police station on Monday.

Deepak,Singhs son,lodged a complaint against Govind. Secondly,on the complaint filed by Sub-Inspector Sandeep Yadav,a case on charges of disturbing the law and order,causing hindrance in official work and attempt to murder has been registered against 150 residents of Mandhana area.
