ABVP set to induct Class XI, XII students

ABVP is set to hold special programmes to enrol Class XI and XII students as members and develop volunteers from the new academic session.

ABVP, RSS State organisation general secretary of ABVP, Dharampal, said the target is to reach out to at least 50 per cent of Intermediate colleges of UP.

RSS students wing Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), which has been holding organisational activities at undergraduate colleges and universities, has decided to also approach Intermediate (Classes XI and XII) students as well to be a part of its cadre.

ABVP is set to hold special programmes to enrol Class XI and XII students as members and develop volunteers from the new academic session, 2015-16, beginning July. A decision in this regard was recently taken at a workshop of office-bearers of ABVP’s UP and Uttarakhand regions in Kanpur.

State organisation general secretary of ABVP, Dharampal, said the target is to reach out to at least 50 per cent of Intermediate colleges of UP. “The objective is to equip ABVP with active organisational workers in degree colleges, engineering and management colleges and universities,” he added.

Another ABVP office-bearer said students usually hesitate to associate with any organsiation when they take admission in the first year of any undergraduate college or university and it takes almost an year to convince them to join the organisation.

“With volunteers at the Intermediate level, we will have teams in every course’s first-year batches in almost all degree colleges, universities and engineering and management institutes. They will be dedicated and active members who will increase ABVP’s membership in higher educational institutions where it contests students union elections,” said Vijay Pratap, state organisation secretary of ABVP.

To enrol members in Intermediate colleges, Pratap said ABVP will seek permission from the principals of institutions that it be allowed to speak to the students during assembly. “If they agree, we will tell students about our nationalist ideology. If denied, we will hold membership camps outside the college for which we do not need any permission,” he added.

“At the camps, ABVP will try to understand the problems students face on campus. Office-bearers will meet the college management with demands to redress the issues. Our campaign will be peaceful,” Pratap said.
