Nine people four boys,four girls and a woman died after a train rammed a tractor trolley in which they were travelling at an unmanned railway crossing in the Uttaripura area under Shivrajpur police station on Tuesday morning. Fifteen others were injured in the accident,and the condition of four is stated to be critical.
A case of negligence driving has been registered against the tractor driver Pradip Dubey,who escaped unhurt and is absconding. While crossing the unmanned railway crossing,Dubey was talking on his mobile phone. Though the passengers warned Dubey about the approaching train,he didnt pay any heed to their warning, said Amit,who escaped unhurt.
There were around 35 passengers on the trolley. Around 10 passengers were successful in jumping from the trolley,but others did not get the time to react, he added.
All the victims were residents of Uddhavpur Niwada village and were on their way to Jagdishpur village to dig out potatoes from the farming fields. The North-Eastern Railway said that no passenger of the Farrukhabad-bound passenger train was injured in the mishap. A police team has been formed to arrest the driver of the tractor at the earliest, said DIG (Kanpur) Prem Prakash.
