4,000 PG students given degrees at LU convocation

Around 4000 post-graduate students of the session 2008-10 and 330 PhD scholars were given degrees at the convocation ceremony of the Lucknow University on Saturday. Professor Kaushik Basu,Chief Economic Advisor to the Government of India,was conferred with the degree of D Litt by the university in the convocation event. At the ceremony,Rakesh Dhar Tripathi,Minister of Higher Education,declared that the university,which till now received Rs 22.85 crore grants will now be getting Rs 40 crore from the current financial year. In the days to come,said Tripathi,some 50 model classrooms will be created in the university which will be equipped with computers and the internet facilities. The government has already sanctioned this project,he said. The Governor,BL Joshi,gave away the degrees.
