About two lakh candidates will appear for the written test to be held for the selection of 35,000 constables in Uttar Pradesh Police. The test, which is the final stage of the selection process after the physical standard test (PST),physical endurance test (PET) and the medical test,is expected to be held statewide in February.
The Uttar Pradesh Police Service Recruitment and Promotion Board, which is conducting the countrys largest recruitment drive, had received 7.55 lakh applications from across the state. Among them, about 4 lakh were found eligible.
Recruitment Board Chairman ADG V C Goel said: The PET,where male candidates have to run 10 km in an hour and female candidates have to run 5 km in 35 minutes,is expected to be over by next month. About two lakh candidates are expected to qualify for the written test which we are hopeful to conduct in February.
Between November 16 and December 16,1.45 lakh candidates have appeared for the test. Among them,1.26 lakh candidates have cleared the test and are currently being scanned for medical fitness. For PET,the board had set up centres in 25 districts. The PET for female candidates will begin on Monday,Goel said.
The Board will also conduct a test for the promotion of sub-inspectors (S-I) as inspectors after the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court disposed of a petition by some S-Is last week. The S-Is had challenged the government order to conduct a written test, followed by a group discussion. They had pleaded that officers should be promoted on the basis of seniority.
While disposing the petition, the High Court had issued directives that the vacancies which were created before the 2008 government order should be filled on the basis of seniority. For the remaining, tests can be conducted.
There were 323 vacancies created before 2008. Now,we will conduct tests for 1,017 aspirants for promotion. The procedure will begin soon after instructions in this regard are received from the DGP Headquarters, Goel said.
