2 killed in Ghaziabad building collapse

Two labourers died and 13 were injured when an under-construction four-storey building collapsed at Shalimar Garden Extension-2,Plot No 7,in Ghaziabad on Saturday evening.

Two labourers died and 13 were injured when an under-construction four-storey building collapsed at Shalimar Garden Extension-2,Plot No 7,in Ghaziabad on Saturday evening. The residential building was being constructed by Kranti Associates Private Ltd.

According to police,the persons responsible are absconding. SSP Raghubir Lal said: “An FIR will be lodged against the firm under Section 304 of the Indian Penal Code.”

The victims are Arvind Sahu (30),a resident of Madhya Pradesh,and a 45-year-old unidentified woman. The injured have been admitted to Narendra Mohan Hospital,Sahibabad. Most of the labourers belong to MP and Bundelkhand region.

“Thirty labourers were working in the building when it collapsed at 5 pm. Two persons were killed on the spot while 13 were injured,” SP (city) J K Shahi said. The condition of the five injured was stated to be serious,he added.

The Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force,a Air Force Disaster Management team and other agencies are engaged in rescue operations.

Shahi said that efforts were on to rescue nearly 10 persons who are still trapped under the debris. The chances of the survival of some of the trapped persons are little,and casualties are expected to mount by Sunday.
