As many as fifteen persons lost their lives in the state in various incidents related to Holi revelry.
According to police,seven youths drowned in the Ganga in Kanpur Nagar district on Wednesday. The youths,all residents of Kanpur city,had gone to take bath in the river after celebrating Holi,the police added. The seven bodies have been recovered,but the body of another person who is feared drowned in the river is yet to fished out.
Kohna station house officer Abhay Narayan Rai said all those killed were youths who had gone for a bath after Holi celebrations.
In a similar incident,three youths died in Domariyaganj police station area of Siddharth Nagar district after drowning in a pond where they had gone for a bath following Holi celebrations on Wednesday.
Domariyaganj station officer Sanjay Singh said all three deceased belonged to Agaya village of Domariyaganj area and were below the age of 20 years.
Meerut police found five persons dead inside a house in Manohanpur Colony of Hastinapur area. All of them persons had gathered to celebrate Holi on Wednesday night,the police said.
Hastinapur station officer Rajveer Sharma said prima facie it has been found that the deceased persons had consumed some poisonous substance in the night. However,details about what exactly caused their deaths will come after the postmortem reports,he said.
The government,in a statement,said as many as 5,262 persons across the state were carried by government ambulances for treatment in emergency conditions during Holi.
The statement said the maximum cases of emergency medical help came from Hardoi (153) and Lucknow (119). The number of emergency cases remains below 4,200 on usual days but because of Holi,the number shot up on Wednesday,it said.
