120 booked after clashes between Muslim sects

A case was registered against 120 people on Saturday after violence erupted between two Muslim groups on Friday over comments made by a community leader,police said.

Amid tension in Muslim-dominated areas,security has been beefed up and strong reinforcements of PAC and Rapid Action Force personnel have been deployed to prevent any further clashes,DIG Ashok Mutha Jain said.

Those who have been booked belong to Barelvi and Deoband sects of Sunni Muslims.

The trouble began on Friday at Bajaria area in Colonelganj after some people belonging to the Barelvi sect tried to burn an effigy of Rajya Sabha member Maulana Mahmood Madani as they were upset over some remarks made by him earlier. Following this,violence erupted between the supporters of Deobandi and Barelvi sects in which nine persons including a child were injured.

The injured child,Farhan,is admitted to a private hospital and is in a critical condition,said District Magistrate,Mukesh Meshram.
